Chesterfield Monthly Meeting was organized in 1684 by Burlington Quarterly Meeting. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. In 1956, the former Orthodox or Mercer Street meeting merged with the former Hicksite or Hanover Street meeting. In 1974, Chesterfield's two preparative meetings, Crosswicks and Trenton, were established as monthly meetings. Chesterfield Monthly Meeting was formally discontinued in 1977.

A preparative meeting called "Robins" was established by 1800. In 1804, its name was changed to "East Branch". In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the preparative meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. East Branch Preparative Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued in 1833. At that time, the East Branch School --which had been established in 1801 under the oversight of the preparative meeting-- came under the care of Chesterfield Monthly Meeting (Orthodox)
