Garmezy, Samuel, 1892-1979

Samuel Garmezy was born in Russia in 1892. He graduated from Cornell University in 1913, with a degree in Civil Engineering, and worked for the American Bridge Company until 1916. He then went to the Philippines with the Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Company of Manila, the largest construction company in the Philippines. He was employed by the firm for 32 years, becoming its president in 1945. During World War II, he was interned by the Japanese in Santo Tomas and Los Baños for three years.
