Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. Meeting House Trust Funds Committee.
The Quaker community in Charleston, South Carolina, was never very large. The last meeting house was destroyed in the great fire of 1861, and in 1876 an act of legislature was passed allowing the Quakers to sell the lot to benefit the Society of Friends in South Carolina. The property was leased, and the money used to build meeting houses in other places. The original property was sold in 1967 to the county of Charleston. In 1982 the Meeting House Trust Funds Committee transferred $10,000 from the Charleston Fund to the Charleston Preparative Meeting for the purpose of acquiring a meeting house.
