Jonas and Vira Ann Barber, with four children arrived in Denver on Oct. 5, 1860. Then, they moved to South Boulder Creek. They filed a pre-emption claim on 160 acres there. Their son, Charles and his new wife, Caroline Elizabeth Pruden, moved to "Golden City" in June, 1863. Jonas and his sons built the Rock Flour Mill in Golden in 1867 and established a sawmill at the mouth of South Boulder Canyon in 1868. Charles and Caroline built a home nearby. This house burned in 1902. Caroline sold some of her land to Frank Fowler, on which he built the Eldorado Springs resort, opening on 4 Jul 1905. Caroline and Charles Barber are buried in the cemetery on the hill in Eldorado Springs. See BHS 159 for Charles M. Pruden's photo album.
