The Saltair Railway was established in June 1891 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The railway aimed to provide passenger service from Salt Lake City, Utah to the Great Salt Lake. In 1892 the name of the company was changed to the Salt Lake & Los Angeles Railway.

The Salt Lake & Los Angeles Railway was established in 1892 in a renaming of the earlier Saltair Railway. The company was owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and provided passenger service to the Saltair Resort. On March 18, 1906 the railway was sold to a group of Latter-day Saint businessmen, including Nephi Clayton, C.W. Nielson, and J.E. Langford. Then, on October 18, 1916, the company changed its name to the Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railroad.

The Saltair Beach Company was organized in June 1891 with George Q. Cannon and other authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as directors and Isaac A. Clayton as secretary. The resort, located on the southern shore of the Great Salt Lake, opened on June 8, 1893. On March 18, 1906, the Church sold its interests in Saltair to a group of Latter-day Saint businessmen, including Nephi Clayton, C.W. Nielson, and J.E. Langford. In 1918, the Saltair Beach Company was purchased by the Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railway.
