Wood, Anna Stanley Schofield, 1884-1983.

Anna (1884-1983) and her brother, Jim, were the children of Richard S. Stanley and Jane McSweyn, who married in 1882. After 1892 the Stanleys lived on a farm in Gilmore Twp. (Mich.). Anna enrolled at CMU in 1899 and graduated in March 1901. Her Uncle Dan McSweyn worked to help finance her education. She taught two years at rural Case School. In 1903 she married Elmer Schofield (d. 1938), with whom she had 10 children. They lived in Calif., 1909-1911. At age 70, Anna returned to CMU as a student. She retired after teaching for 20 years in 1955. Four of her daughters also taught. Nisbet was the Pres. of the Mich. State Bd. of Education in 1954.
