Edwards was a teacher and a Minister in the Church of England. His ministerial appointments were as Recotor of St Augustine's, Bulli (1923-26) and Rector of St James Church, Sydney (1956-62). He was appointed as first Headmaster of Canberra Grammar School on its opening in 1929, which position he held for 17 years. In 1947 he was appointed as Chief of the UNICEF Mission to Greece, Italy and Malta where he remained until 1952.
