Chartered on Dec. 8, 1919, the Midland Section of ACS draws its members from Midland, Bay, Gratiot, Isabella, and Saginaw counties (Mich.). Many members represent the Dow Chemical Company and Dow Corning Corporation, as well as Michigan Chemical Co., Central Michigan University, Alma College, Delta College, and Saginaw Valley State College. The organization's objectives are to encourage the advancement of chemistry in all of its branches, promote research in chemical science and industry, and increase and diffuse chemical knowledge through its meetings and publications. Herbert H. Dow served as the Section's first chairman.
