Laura Hill Coit (1875-1944), graduated from the North Carolina Normal and Industrial School (now UNCG) in 1896, and immediately joined the faculty to teach English, physical education and mathematics. From 1901 until her retirement in 1937, she was assistant and secretary to Presidents McIver, Foust and Jackson. She also served as secretary-treasurer and president of the Alumnae Association.
