The Poorman mine was located near Caribou (Colo.), a silver mining community in southwestern Boulder County. The Poorman or Poor Man, located in 1869, was one of the early mines of the Caribou area. Neil D. McKenzie, donor of the materials in this folder, was associated with the mine for many years. He was a major owner and stockholder, and was manager of the mine while it was owned by a Scottish firm and later for the Poorman Mining Company.

The Poorman Mining Company, a syndicate headed by former Colorado U.S. Senator Horace A. W. Tabor, purchased the mine in May of 1888 for $450,000. (Source: historical note in this file.).
