Massachusetts. Governor's Press Office.

Hide Profile

The Governor's Press Office is responsible for publicizing events of the governor's administration. In fulfilling this function it issues media advisories and press releases and maintains written and photographic documentation of events involving the governor.

The Governor's Press Office has been identified as a unit as early as the term of Endicott Peabody (1963-1965), when it was also known as the Governor's Public Information Office, and was closely allied with the Research Dept. under the governor's special assistant in researching and preparing gubernatorial speeches and statements. It continued that function under John Volpe (1965-1969). During the term of Edward King (1979-1983) the unit was known as the Governor's Communications Office. At various times the State House photographer and the Public Information Office of the Dept. of Public Works have served as the governor's photographer.
