Maria Montessori was born on 31 August 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy. She attended the Regio Instituto Tecnico Leonardo da Vinci in Rome, Italy and in 1896 graduated from the medical program at the University of Rome. She began an educational philosophy. As early as 1909, Montessori's work began to attract the attention of international observers and visitors. Montessori’s antifascist views caused her to be forced into exile from Italy during Mussolini’s premiership. She died May 6, 1952 in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
