Russell, Judith Barnard Swain, 1753-1833
Variant namesJudith Barnard Swain Russell was a Quaker from Nantucket who later moved to North Carolina.
Russell was born Judith Barnard to Francis and Elizabeth Barnard of Nantucket on March 9, 1753. In early 1774 she married Paul Swain. The couple had three children, two of whom lived to adulthood. Paul died in 1779, and in 1786 Judith and the children joined a group of Nantucket Quakers emigrating to North Carolina. They settled in Stokes County and became members of Deep River Monthly Meeting. In 1791 Judith remarried to Timothy Russell, moving to his home in Guilford County and becoming a member of New Garden Monthly Meeting. She died in 1833.
