Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Paul, 1812-1874
Variant namesPaul Mendelssohn-Bartholdy was a son of the banker Abraham Mendelssohn Bartholdy and his wife Lea Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the grandson of philospher Moses Mendelssohn. His siblings were the composer Fanny Hensel, the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and Rebecka Dirichlet. He became partner of the family bank Mendelssohn & Co. in 1838. He married Albertine Heine, a daughter of the Berlin banker Heinrich Carl Heine and sister of the mathematician Eduard Heine. They had five children Pauline, Katharine, Ernst, Gotthold, and Fanny.
