Moore, Samuel, 1742-1822

Hide Profile

Samuel Moore was a Canadian Quaker. Moore was born in Rahway, New Jersey, in 1742. In 1763 he married Rachel Stone (1742-1813). Because of his loyalist sympathies during the Revolutionary War, Moore and his family were forced to flee north in 1777, first to New York, and then to Nova Scotia. They settled near Annapolis, Nova Scotia, and remained there until around 1812. The family then moved to Ontario, making a detour to visit Moore's hometown, where Rachel died in 1813. Moore himself died in 1822 near Norwich, Ontario.
