David Halstead was a Quaker from Purchase, New York. Halstead was born to David Halstead and Patience Barnes Halstead on November 18, 1750 (7th of 9th month, Old Style). In 1773 he married non-Quaker Naomi Cromwell, daughter of John Cromwell and Ann Hopkins Cromwell. The couple had 14 children, including another David Halstead (1777-1839) who became a Quaker minister of moderate reknown. David Halstead the elder died on March 26, 1805.
