The boarfd was created by the legislature in 1937 and re-created without change in 1943. A citizen member was added to the[board in 1980.

Legal Authority: O.C.G.A. chap. 43-24.

The board establishes grades of certification for librarians; prescribes and holds examinations or requires credentials to establish the qualifications of those seeking librarianship certificates; and issues certificates to qualified librarians in accordance with its rules and regulations.
