Broughton Hospital (Morganton, N.C.)

Broughton Hospital at Morganton, N.C. was originally establised in 1883 as the Western North Carolina Insane Asylum. Its first director was Dr. Patrick Livingston Murphy (1848-1907). In 1890 the hospital's name was changed to State Hospital at Morganton, and in 1959 to Broughton Hospital, named after World War II Governor J. Melville Broughton (1888-1949)
