The Louisiana State University Department of Political Science was established in 1907. It is one of the few in the country equally renowned for its quantitative and theoretical research. This dual focus was shaped not only at LSU but nationwide by its prominent intellects including Taylor Cole, Charles Hyneman, Eric Voegelin, Wilmoore Kendall, Walter Berns, William Havard, and René Williamson.
