Variant namesTony Johnston (a pseudonym used by Susan Taylor Johnston) was born January 30, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of a professional golfer. She married Roger Johnston, a banker in 1966, and has two children. She attended the U. of California at Berkeley for a year, then received a B.A. from Stanford U. in 1963. She became a public school teacher, and published her first book, The Adventures of Mole and Troll, in 1972. She has become a prolific author of children's books featuring quirky characters, both human and animal, and has won several awards. She has also collaborated with several other popular artists, including Tomie dePaola, Cyndy Szekers, Guilio Maestro and Wallace Tripp.
