Willie French Lowery (1944-2012), was a Lumbee musician and activist from Robeson County, N.C. Lowery was best known for his music, having written and published more than 500 songs. In 1976, Lowery composed the musical score for Randolph Umberger's outdoor drama of "Strike at the Wind!" performed in Pembroke for over two decades. The drama portrays Henry Berry Lowrie, whom Willie called "the king of kings, the Indian Robin Hood," for his battle against white supremacy.
