Marcellus Marion Murdock was born February 14, 1883 in Wichita, Kansas. His father (Marshall M. Murdock) was a prominent newspaper publisher and founder of the Wichita Eagle. Following his graduation from Wichita High School Marcellus Murdock married and joined the staff of the Wichita Eagle as a working reporter. Gradually he turned from reporting to the business administration of the newspaper and later became publisher of the Wichita Eagle. During an award winning career at the newspaper, Murdock championed the Wichita area and devoted many hours to civic causes. Murdock had other business interests apart from publishing. He was involved in the oil business, backed a Broadway production ("Enter Madame" was a hit in the 1920 season), owned commercial real estate, and a wallboard company. Murdock was also one of the four founders and owners of Wichita radio station KFH (the first radio station in the Wichita area). Murdock died in 1970.
