Hide Profile

Jules Louis Basset was born August 22, 1857 in Labadieville, La. to Hyacinthe Basset and Julie Sybille. He established a mercantile business in 1882 that consisted of a general store and several peddling wagons located in what would later become known as the St. John community north of Thibodaux. Some of Basset's children helped him with his retail business during the early 1900s and continued to run his store after his death in 1933. The J.L. Basset Store closed in 1942.
