Born in Plymouth, Michigan; attended State Normal; married Lina Deland of Saginaw, 1868; served in 17th volunteer regimental infantry during Civil War; advertising manager of Detroit Tribune, 1871; became head of advertising department, 1873; president of Detroit Evening Journal, 1884-182; one of the founders of Detroit Museum of Art in 1883; died in New York City in March, 1909.
