Woman's National Farm and Garden Association

The WNFGA was founded in 1914 as the Women's National Agricultural and Horticultural Association, to promote agricultural and horticultural interests among women throughout the country; they changed their name to the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association in 1916.

The following information is from the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association (WNFGA) website http://www.wnfga.org/index.html (July 2009). The WNFGA was established in 1914 to connect women from around the country who shared a love of gardening and agriculture. Louisa King, the main force behind WNFGA's founding, served as president (1914-1920), and, "during her presidency the broad purposes of the organization found expression in education and scholarship; the setting of high marketing standards and in conservation. It also saw the establishment of Woman's Land Army Units (The Farmerettes) of World War I fame."

Today, the WNFGA is "an environmental group comprised of branches, garden clubs and special interest environmental organizations. We gather for an Annual Meeting to share ideas on growth, program speakers and activities, learn about new environmental issues and seal friendships with other organizations and their members."
