Samuel Stokes was born on the 24th day of the 12th month, 1743 (Old Style), the son of Joshua and Amy Stokes. He was a Quaker associated with Haddonfield, New Jersey and Haddonfield Monthly Meeting. He was married to Hope Hunt and the couple had 10 children, Aquilar, Priscilla, Atlantic, Isaac, Rachel, Esther, Hezekiah, Elisha, Mary Anne, and Martha. He died on the 2nd day of the 4th month, 1802.
