Jeffries, John Hayles Blackfeather, 1939-2024
John Hayles Blackfeather Jeffries was born 24 May 1939 in Hillsborough, N.C. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1960 and served for eight years. He became a member of the Eno-Occaneechi Indian Association (reorganized today as the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation) in 1985. In 1991 he founded the Traditional Occaneechi Heritage Association (TOHA); the purpose of TOHA is to teach the Native tradition and culture to people who are interested in keeping the heritage of the Native People alive. Jeffries died on 24 January 2024 at the age of 83.
