John Tatem was a Quaker minister from Deptford, New Jersey. He was born to John Tatem on the 17th of 6th month 1739, New Style (6th of 4th month, Old Style). Tatem was received into membership in the Society of Friends by Haddonfield Monthly Meeting in April 1762. Later that year he married Sarah Ward, daughter of George Ward. The couple had 4 children together, two of whom lived to adulthood. Sarah died in 1778, and in 1780 John remarried to Elizabeth Cooper, daughter of David Cooper and Sibyl Matlack Cooper. Tatem was a member of Haddonfield Monthly Meeting and Woodbury Monthly Meeting. He died in 1821 in the 83rd year of his life.
