Utah. Treasurer

The State Treasurer is an elective constitutional officer serving as custodian of public moneys (Constitution of Utah, Article VII, sections 1 and 15).

Utah Code Title 67, chapter 4. General duties are enumerated in section 1. Specific powers and duties include: (1) receive and oversee all moneys belonging to the state, (2) keep certificates of the state auditor when moneys are paid to the state treasurer, (3) provide receipts to persons paying money into the treasury, (4) pay warrants drawn by the state auditor, (5) cancel warrants after they are paid, (6) keep an account of all moneys received and disbursed, (7) keep separate accounts of the different funds, (8) report monthly to the state auditor on amounts disbursed for the redemption of bonds and the payment of warrants, (9) report on balances in the treasury, (10) give information as to the condition of the treasury to the legislature upon request, and (11) discharge the duties of all boards of which the treasurer is a member.
