Founded 1894 in Mission District of San Francisco, Calif. by Sidney S. Peixotto, the club offered recreational programs in the arts and athletics for boys aged 7-18. Early features of the club included a marching band and vaudeville show, which went on several national and international tours, and a summer camp that modeled political democracy.
