Arthur Holmberg (1944-) received his Ph.D. in comparative literature from Harvard, where he has taught courses in English, French, comparative literature, and drama. Cambridge University Press recently published his book The Theatre of Robert Wilson, the first comprehensive study of this innovative director's work. Currently, Mr. Holmberg is writing a book on David Mamet, also for the Cambridge University Press. He served as United States editor for The World Encyclopedia of Contemporary Theatre (Routledge, 1996), as well as writing the sections on playwrights, directors, architecture, and criticism. His articles have appeared in the International Herald Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, as well as in American Theatre and Opera News. Dr. Holmberg is an associate professor at Brandeis University and the American Repertory Theater Resident Literary Advisor (Dramaturgy).
