Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (Great Britain)
Variant namesFounded 1826, largely at instigation of Lord Brougham. Society's aim was to diffuse knowledge by acting as agent between authors and publishers in commissioning series of treatises on specified topics. The earliest series, 'The Library of Useful Knowledge,' included many works on mathematics and related philosophy.
