Hilaire Belloc, British author, historian, and poet.

Hilaire Belloc was born in France and raised in England. He attended Oxford from 1906-1910 and served as a member of Parliament. Many of Belloc's works reveal his strong faith in Catholicism. Belloc married American Elodie Hogan in 1896, had five children with her, and did not marry after her death. Belloc died on July 16, 1953.

Elodie Hogan considered a religious vocation prior to agreeing to marry Hilaire Belloc in 1896. She and Hilaire had five children: Louis (1897), Eleanor (1899), Elizabeth (1900), Hilary (1902) and Peter (1904). Elodie Belloc fell ill in December 1913, and died on February 2, 1914.
