Brannan, John Milton, 1819-1892.
Variant namesAmerican army officer who served in the Mexican War and the Civil War; in the latter war, he accompanied General Sherman on his Georgia campaign and commanded Union artillery in the siege of Atlanta. He was made a brigadier general at the end of the war.

General John Milton Brannan, born July 1, 1819 in Washington, D.C., was a graduate of West Point and was career military. He served with distinction in the war with Mexico. During the Civil War he commanded a division at Chickamauga and took part in the Atlanta Campaign.
