McArthur, D. H. (Dugald H.), 1864-1942.

Dugald H. McArthur was born in Ontario, Canada in 1864. He came with his parents to Bottineau County, N.D. and operated a drug store. He married Amelia Knapp in 1888. He was elected to the North Dakota Senate in 1902 on the Democratic ticket and served until 1910. He then served as Democratic State Chairman until 1914. He was editor of The Periscope magazine in 1917, published in Fargo, N.D. Beginning in 1919 he served as private secretary under U.S. Congressman John M. Baer, Senators Edwin F. Ladd and Gerald P. Nye. He died in 1942. Variant forms of his name, found in the collection and elsewhere, are Douglas H. McArthur and MacArthur.
