Mary Nan Hudgins Mailman was born in Forney, Texas on April 29, 1929. She grew up in Dallas, attended North Dallas High School (class of 1946), and studied with Silvio Scionti at what is now the University of North Texas, earning bachelor's and master's degrees (1950 and 1956). At age 20, she won the 1949 G.B. Dealey Memorial Award and playing the Mozart Concerto in E-flat Major for Two Pianos with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She later earned an artist diploma from the Juilliard School of Music, studying with Rosina Lhévinne, and served on the piano faculty of Eastman School of Music, East Carolina University, and UNT. At UNT, she frequently performed in piano duos with Jean Harris Mainous, and collaborated with her husband, composer Martin Mailman. Mary Nan Mailman died in Weatherford, Texas on June 25, 2016.
