Berthe Huberman de Odnoposoff was a concert pianist, and served on the faculty of the College of Music along with her husband, cellist Adolfo Odnoposoff (1917-1992). Her obituary in the July 10, 2019 Denton Record-Chronicle traces the Odnoposoffs' extensive travels which ultimately brought them to Denton: Berthe Huberman was born in Paris to parents who had emigrated from Poland. The family moved to Havana, Cuba when she was young, and she studied at the conservatory, completing a "Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Degree, a Diploma in piano and a Diploma in theory and harmony from the Ministry of Education." She met Adolfo Odnoposoff when he was serving as principal cellist for the Havana Symphony Orchestra in 1944. They were married in 1946, and performed extensively as a duo, in which she was often identified as Berta Huberman. The Odnoposoffs moved to Mexico City with their daughter in 1957 due to the political situation in Cuba at the time, and again to Puerto Rico in 1964 at the invitation of Pablo Casals. The couple joined the music faculty at UNT in 1976, where they spent the remainder of their distinguished careers. The Odnoposoffs had numerous original compositions dedicated to them from composers across the Western Hemisphere. An archived 2014 faculty profile page further details Berthe Odnoposoff's contributions while at UNT, including extensive performances and philanthropic activities, such as her support for the Hispanic Friends ProMusica.
