Reid Cherlin is the head writer for HBO’s weekly news documentary program, VICE on HBO, and was previously a spokesman and communications strategist for President Obama, both on the campaign trail and at the White House. As Assistant Press Secretary during the first two years of the Obama presidency, he handled issues ranging from the Affordable Care Act to the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Before that, he served as a strategist and press secretary for presidential and congressional candidates and for several members of Congress, including then-Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. He has written widely on politics and international affairs for a number of publications, including New York, The New Republic, Rolling Stone, GQ, and Politico. He studied English at Yale University.
