Howell, William Boyman, 1873-
Variant namesWilliam B. Howell was born in England and educated there and in Montreal, where he received his M.D.,C.M. from McGill University in 1896. He practiced in Montreal, and during the First World War he worked overseas with the Field Ambulance Service. In 1918, he was appointed as the first full-time anesthetist to the Royal Victoria Hospital. Howell retired to England in 1937, where he pursued his avocation in literature and history. He was the author of a history of medicine in Canada (1933) and of a biography of Dr. F.J. Shepherd.
