Meriwether, John Samuel, 1830-1879.
John Samuel Meriwether, Confederate soldier and physician, was born 28 January 1830, in Springfield, Alabama, and died 26 May 1879, in Eutaw, Alabama. He received a medical degree from Charleston (S.C.) Medical College (1853); married Alice Coleman (1860); enlisted in the Confederate Army (1862), and served with the 38th and 40th Alabama infantries and as the surgeon (major) in charge of the Confederate Hospital in Eufaula, Alabama.
