Civil War soldier; served in Company F or the 64th New York Infantry Regiment, 1861-1864; wounded at Gettysburg; captain at Spotsylvania, May 1864; confinement at Andersonville and other prisons until he escaped in November, 1864. Moved west after the war where he engaged in various business ventures.
