People's Government (Denver, Colo.)
The People's Government was a local government council organized in 1859 due to the inability of the Provisional Government of Jefferson Territory to enforce its laws. It elected judges, sheriffs, the recorder, held elections, assessed property, established a fire department, and maintained law and order until the establishment of the Colorado Territory in 1861.
