O'Brien, Mark, 1949-1999
Poet-journalist O'Brien contracted poliomyelitis in childhood and has spent most of his life in an iron lung. In his writings, he describes how he has fought against illness and bureaucracy for his right to lead an independent life, and offers his reflections on college, work, sex, death, euthanasia, and God.
