Mary Ann Smith Denvil was born around 1809. She married actor Henry Denvil in 1823 and he became manager of the Pavilion Theatre, London. Together they had twelve children (seven survived past childhood) and she was a dramatist in her own right. She would write to provide for her family and had many plays performed in the 1840s-1850s.
