The Newark Collaboration Group, a public/private partnership, was formed in 1984, and its primay goai was to collaboratively explore Newark's most pressing issues, to provide a forum for bringing people together to discuss and find common ground, and to work together on solutions. Through task forces and public meetings, NCG reached a future vision for the city and its action plan, of which the initiative led to $2 billion in downtown investment, housing development, education and arts development in Newark. Alex J. Plinio, a former senior executive at Prudential Financial, chaired the creation of NCG.
