Physician and diabetologist, Walker grew up in Croydon, England, and attended the London Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine for Women. She worked at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, serving as anaesthetist, chief assistant to the Medical Department, medical officer in charge of the Nurses' Health Service, and head of the Diabetic Department. Beginning in 1938 she also had a general practice, which she gave up in 1950 to travel to the United States and Canada to study the management of diabetes. A pioneer in home treatment of diabetic children, Walker spent the remainder of her career working with diabetics in the Leicester area.
