John G. White Special Collections
John G. White (1845-1928), eminent Cleveland lawyer and President of the Cleveland Public Library Board of Trustees, was an avid chess player and enthusiastic collector. He was a vital force in shaping the research aspects of the Cleveland Public Library and donated his personal library of chess and checkers material. It is assumed that much of the material from the collections was compiled by White and other members of the Special Collections staff through aquisition and donation.
