Indiana University. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Bloomington Chancellor

In 1981, Robert Cochran was named Indiana University Bloomington's Director of Administration and Assistant to the Vice President, serving under Kenneth R. R. Gros Louis, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Bloomington Chancellor.

Robert Cochran started his career at IU in 1964 as an assistant in the Budgetary Planning and Preparation Office, which now is known as the University Budget Office. In 1972, he became the assistant business manager for the Bloomington Campus and served in this capacity until 1981, when he was appointed Director of Administration and Assistant to the Vice President under the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Bloomington Chancellor, Kenneth R. R. Gros Louis.

As Director of Administration and Assistant to the Vice President, Cochran served as a liaison between the Vice President Gros Louis and units on the IUB campus. During his time in the Chancellor’s office, he helped establish a strong working relationship between the office and university-wide administrative areas. For this work, in 2005 he was recognized with the university’s highest staff honor, the E. Ross Bartley Award.

Cochran retired in 2000 after serving in the Chancellor’s Office for 19 years and Indiana University for 35 years.
