Ms. Mary V. Blackmon was born in Washington, Georgia in 1933. She describes her parents as old school, ... "wonderful parents, they gave me a good solid background--pay as you go, treat people right, and get an education." Ms. Blackmon's first job was teaching biology and chemistry at Cedartown High School in Polk County, beginning in 1954. In 1957, Ms. Blackmon accepted a commission with the United States Army as a physical therapist but was unable to follow through because of a bad accident. She returned to Cedartown High School for one year and then went to the University of Tennessee to get her masters degree. Ms. Blackmon came to Columbus College in 1959 and taught in the Physical Education Department until her retirement in 1987.
