Robert Murray, Trades Union Congress's Medical and Industrial Safety Advisor

Dr Robert (Bob) Murray was born in 1916. After studying medicine he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War II and was mentioned in dispatches while serving in Burma. He was a doctor specialising in occupational medicine and worked for the Medical Inspectorate of Factories, 1947-1956 and then for the International Labour Organisation in Geneva. He was the TUC's Medical and Industrial Safety Advisor, 1962-1974 and helped to establish the TUC Centenary Institute of Occupational Health at London University. He was awarded the OBE in 1978. Robert Murray died in 1998.
